The Three Fateful Days in the earthly life of Jesus begin with His CRUCIFIXION on Passover Day. Followed by His BURIAL in a borrowed tomb of Joseph of Arimathea before sundown on Passover Day. Jesus spent three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (on the Paradise side of Hades). On the Third Day, JESUS ROSE from the dead!
Day 1 – Crucifixion
Although no one knows the exact hour that Jesus was arrested, the most likely time was around 12:00 o’clock Midnight. He is placed on the cross at 9 am the following morning, so, from midnight until shortly before 9am (@9 hrs.) Jesus goes through 6 illegal trials (3 Jewish, 3 Roman). The Jews find Him guilty of blasphemy, but the Romans declare He is innocent. So, what happened?
Day 2 – The Tomb
As Jesus suffered in agony on the cross, what men saw was a man hanging limp with every bone of His body out of joint. Bleeding flesh ripped from His body. A swollen tongue protruding from His parched lips as He cried out, “it is finished!” They didn’t know what was going on. As the veil of revelation was drawn back, we are told by the Apostle Paul that something dynamically earth shattering was going on in the darkness of those awful three days in the tomb! What was it?
Day 3 – Resurrection
If Jesus did not rise from the dead, what happened to the body? The Roman historian, Josephus, who was commissioned by the Government to compile the ‘History of the Jews’ states in Book 14 that ‘His body WAS mysteriously missing on the third day.’ Where did that body go? If He was not raised from the dead, the body would still be there. SOMEWHERE! Someone had to take it! Where was it ? What really took place on that dreadful day? Jesus was either raised from the dead or He had just pulled off the greatest hoax ever!
