The Bible teaches us that our words are connected to what is in our hearts. If we have a speech problem, it’s because we have a heart problem. Jesus told the Pharisees to clean up the inside of the cup and dish and then the outside would be clean. (Matthew 23: 25-26) In other words, to change our words, we must change our heart; or, in order to change the fruit, we have to go to the root. When a tree fails to bear good fruit, a good gardener will go to the root, examining the soil, adding nutrients if needed or eliminating damaging insects. For the words of our mouth to be good, the soil of our heart must be good.
