Jesus is very honest with His Disciples as they return from their mission to secure food for their weary, hungry Rabbi. As they urge Him to eat, He informs them that He has food that they are not aware of. His food is to do the will of His Father and to accomplish His work. Of course, Jesus is using a metaphor (implied comparison) of food to reflect the crux of His life. Jesus is saying, “Just as you feel satisfied after a good meal, doing God’s will and accomplishing His purpose satisfies Me.” Now, Jesus says, “What I need you to do is lift up your eyes and see. Something is ALREADY happening. Don’t miss this!” It is so easy to get all wrapped up in current events and lose the “big picture.” To get so busy managing the minutia that you lose track of what God really has for your life. So Jesus says, “Look … lift up your eyes … and see!” I do feel a sense of responsibility to inform you that, when you do lift up your eyes, you may not see what you want to see.
